Disney REVEL To Add Sensation To Smartphone Screen And Everyday Objects
Disney Research team has demonstrated a new technology that can add sensation and texture to almost everything you can touch. Researchers have managed to create a computer interface that alters the way we feel about everyday objects by passing a weak electric signal.
The technology is called REVEL, and it utilizes Reverse Electrovibration, which achieves the desired effect by taping an electric signal generator to the user’s body, and once he touches an object on the very same electrical plane; that electric field around his body can be changed to generate friction.
The REVEL technology is surely going to change the way we use smartphones these days by adding a completely new level of experience to those games and apps. The following video will help you with the idea that Disney demonstrated at the Siggraph 2012 conference in Los Angeles.
Existing tactile technology utilizes different actuators to produce vibrant responsive sensations, restricting the feeling to the connections with instruments. Compared, Disney’s REVEL can add manufactured tactile feelings to almost any exterior or item, with little or no instruments used.
Therefore, REVEL can offer powerful tactile sensations on smartphone touch screens in coming years maybe next iPhone. In addition to phone and tablet, the technology will have its effect on daily items and materials in the surroundings, like household furniture, wooden and plastic products, and even our skin.
