iOS 5 has a new keyboard layout that will make life easier for iPad owners. With the new iOS 5 you can now activate a new split keyboard option, which will save you from typing on the straight keyboard using the thumb, which hold good only for the small screen iPhone.

The split screen keyboard can be activated by tapping over the keyboard icon located at bottom right of the keyboard. Once you tap over the small icon you will be offered two options, one to make the onscreen keyboard appear higher or lower and another option will split the keyboard as shown in the image above. The height of the split screen keyboard can also be changed by sliding it up and down on your screen.

The split screen keyboard will take some time to get accustomed, but after that you will find it hard to go back to the previous keyboard layout. The typing speed will not only improve, but you will also find the new layout more ergonomic and comfortable for your fingers.
