Android 2.1 SDK available and ready for download. The Android Development Team has announced the release of the Android 2.1 SDK for developers to take advantage of new features in Android 2.1.
According to the Android Development Team the latest SDK is a minor platform release deployable to Android-powered handsets starting in January 2010. The release includes new API changes and bug fixes. More information regarding the changes, is available in the Framework API section.
Developers can download the Android 2.1 platform as a component for the Android SDK. The download includes a fully compliant Android library and system image, as well as a set of emulator skins, sample applications, and more.
To get started developing or testing against the Android 2.1 platform, use the Android SDK and AVD Manager tool to download the platform into your Android SDK. For more information, see Adding SDK Components.
The new API updates includes:
- Two new APIs and an updated Wallpaper Manager for Live Wallpapers
- New Signal Strength class to show information about an android device’s signal strength.
